Short Bio
Hwee-Pink TAN is currently Associate Professor of Information Systems (Practice) as well as Academic Director of the TCS-SMU iCity Lab at the Singapore Management University. Prior to joining SMU in March 2015, he was the SERC Programme Manager of the A*STAR Sense and Sense-abilities Program, Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), Singapore.
Before returning to Singapore to join I2R in March 2008, he was a Research Fellow at Center for Telecommunications Value-chain Research (CTVR) in the Emerging Networks (EN) strand, led by
Dr. Linda Doyle.Between December 2004 and June 2006, he was a post-doctoral researcher at EURANDOM in the research group, Queueing and Performance Analysis (QPA), under the guidance of
Prof.dr Onno Boxma and
Dr. Ivo Adan. He also visited the Telecommunications Group at the University of Ferrara from September-October 2004 and
was hosted by Prof. Michele Zorzi, who is Professor of Telecommunications in the Department of Information Engineering, University of Padua, Italy.
He is currently the lead PI of the L2 NIC funded ShineSeniors project, in collaboration with Dr Liang Huiguang (Co-PI, A*STAR Sense and Sense-abilities) and Dr. Eugene Shum (Co-PI, Eastern Health Alliance).
In his capacity as the Head of the A*STAR Sense and Sense-abilities programme, he was involved in the following projects:

- May 2012 - May 2015 : A Unified Sensing and Transport Architecture for Large Scale and Heterogeneous Sensor and Actuator Networks (Principal Investigator);
- October 2010 - September 2012 : Exploiting Ambient Energy Harvesting and Wireless Multihop Technologies for Open Car Park Monitoring (Principal Investigator);
- April 2009 - September 2011 : Robust Multihop Underwater Network to Support Long-Range Sensing Applications (Principal Investigator);
- August 2007 - August 2011 : Underwater Sensor Networks for Intelligent Deepwater Mooring Systems (Principal Investigator wef 1 October 2009);
