Abstract Cross-cultural research on subjective well-being (SWB) is reviewed. Recent large-scale survey studies support the fulfillment of universal basic physical and psychosocial needs for SWB. However, cultural differences remain in the strength of association between certain needs and SWB, the relation among the affective and cognitive components of SWB, and the overall level of SWB in a society. These differences may be attributable to variation in economic development, individualism-collectivism, and prevalence of specific genotypes.[Download PDF] |
